Photographer Stefano De Luigi spent four years documenting the experiences of the visually impaired around the world, particularly those affected by Onchocerciasis, also known as river blindness, a preventable but merciless disease. The realities that confronted him compelled de Luigi to find a way of bearing witness through suggestions and approaches that transcend both compassion and blame.
The portfolio of images included in this journey encompass work from 2003 through 2007, while de Luigi was reporting on the conditions of the blind across four continents, in the countries of Liberia, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Thailand, China, Laos, Vietnam, Bulgaria and Lithuania.
